About
Founded in September 2011 by artist researcher Emily Hope, the Wild Man Appreciation Society is a civil society and personal museum dedicated to the preservation and promotion of tales of the Wild Man.
Throughout history, Wild Men have played an integral role in festivals, storytelling, art making, and other forms of popular culture in countries all over the world. Alternately demonized and romanticized, the Wild Man can be found in many forms: pagan god; noble savage; trickster; servant; demon.
The Wild Man Appreciation Society celebrates these various Wild Men, collecting giant mittens and giants’ rings; sixteenth-century beer jugs; coins, stamps, and playing cards; tin types, tapestries and toys; carvings, costumes and more.
